From 40 seconds we see the first flash back that is shot in a traditional film method to replicate and create the feeling of the past and what has happened before. The editing here focuses on cuts and there is an obvious and intentional cut to the second scene where the old film is used to replicate the initial actions by the elder man. This is where we notice that the colours in the film (2) are very vivid and tinted to a redish colour and this is very boldly contrasted with the bleak and washed out colours that are featured in the first scene (1). The video cuts are in time to the music and seem to cut on a downstroke of the guitar. In both scenes, we (the audience) are placed as a close outsider to those in the shot and puts us at a position of harmony with the characters, especially the elderly man.

Second scene featuring same kite |
In the scenes following the kite is brought out in the old film and then we see the same kite being carried by the man, therefore it is then safe to know for sure that the reason he is there is because of the woman captured in the old footage. The scene with the old man is very poorly lit and his hat shadows his face and watching this makes me feel very intrusive as the audience. The pace of how fast the camera is moving is also different, where the first seen with the elderly man in it is very slow to match his pace and mood, the following clip from the old film is a much faster pace and represents their eagerness. At this point, the old film scene then reveals that it is being filmed as a POV shot and we see a pair of shoes.
The outfit of the woman captured in the video is attempting to resemble fashion from this unknown to the audience point in time, but it's intentions are to show that it's old. There is another clear cut difference between the old film and the 'now', which is how far away the character(s) are being filmed from, for example in the old film one it is generally very close and features a lot of close ups to indicate that intimacy and the fact that there is two of them there. This of course contrasts with the shot that was directly before which was at the same location and the elderly man is looking out over the sea but it is shot from very far away, hinting at his solidarity and loneliness on this journey.
The theme of solidarity is then carried on through as he walks the length of the seafront. I believe that they purposely chose to shoot on a cold, dim and rainy day in order to represent the elderly mans feelings without this girl, where he once walked with her and reliving those vivid and happy (presented through the colour of the film, tone and camera angles) memories.
The bleakness of the video makes it all fade into one and looks very similar as it has all been shot from far away with a similar visual background, potentially attempting to, again, tell the audience of his remoteness from anyone else and overall his solitude.
